Mr. Absher’s Art Classes

3rd Quarter 9 week Project

 

All three day a week Art classes are to create and submit a 9-week project.

 

The project will be graded on the following criteria, which are worth 100 points each:

 

v Aesthetics ( how the finished picture “looks”)

v Requirements (have you followed directions)

v Design (have you placed the elements of the project in a pleasing and interesting manner)

 

Requirements:

 

Ø  Use 12” by 15” drawing paper (no other size is acceptable).  PAPER MAY NOT BE FOLDED!!

 

Ø  Subject must be a Landscape from life or photo. 

 

Ø  Medium must be colored pencil or oil pastel (if oil pastel is used… you must also use a spray fixative to keep the oil pastel from rubbing off the paper.  An inexpensive hair spray such as “Aquanet” will work fine.)

 

Ø  DUE DATE: NO LATER THAN MARCH 12TH, 2008NO PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 3:00 PM ON THAT DATE!!!!!

Our lesson plans for January will include wrapping up “The Great Abyss” drawings started last month, and beginning to work on a lettering/patterning project that features making a name sign.

6th grade lesson plans will include finishing the “Interlocked Hands” project and beginning a fun project called “Little Car” where our artists will explore using  juxtaposition of sizes to create changes in how we see objects in proportion to other objects.

Our lesson plan for the new year is a continuation of the “Hair Raising Experience” that we began in December.  Using pattern work for hair is meticulous for the artist and a surprise for the viewer.

All 7th and 8th grade students who have Art classes with Mr. Absher 3 times a week are required to submit a special project every 9 week grading period. For the 2ND Quarter, each student must turn in a SELF PORTRAIT from a Photograph. This art work must be on any color paper (or art board) 12” X 18” in size. No other size will be accepted.
- SHADING & SHADOWS ARE REQUIRED!!
- YOUR PHOTO MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF YOUR SELF-PORTRAIT!!
- YOU MAY USE ANY MEDIA BUT USE A FIXATIVE IF THE MEDIA IS LOOSE (COMES OFF ON HANDS).

ALL WORK MUST BE TURNED IN TO MR. A BEFORE DECEMBER 14TH (FRIDAY). THIS PROJECT WILL BE WORTH UP TO 300 POINTS ON YOUR 9 WEEK GRADE.

Given that all goes well, we expect to use Appleworks 6.0 to Draw, Paint, and Write.

Our 8th graders are using colored pencil to do some cartoon illustrations. We use the shape of an M&M (circle) to design three M&M people that have a connection that ties them together. These are lots of fun!!

Seventh Graders are busy drawing pictures of their own shoes. A heavy concentration on shading and shadows make our drawings look “real”.
