About Mr. Absher
Born in Cullman, Alabama during WWII, Mr. Absher moved to Michigan with his family in the early 1950’s. He graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1961 and promptly joined the U.S. Navy.
He worked his way up through the enlisted ranks and was commissioned a Chief Warrant Officer in 1978. After serving on numerous ships and at many domestic and foreign shore stations, he retired from the U.S. Navy in 1991 after 30 years service.
Mr. Absher then embarked on a new career by earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Magna Cum Laude) and Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the University of Memphis.
He has taught Art in Shelby County Schools since 1996 and at Germantown Middle since 1998.
Mr. Absher has been married to the former Sheryl Lee Cornelius since 1965 and they have two children Jennifer and Michael. His hobbies include drawing, painting, sculpture, woodturning, computer repair, and riding his motorcycle.
